We have been hearing a lot of compliments dedicated to british series such as Broadchurch and The Fall. Sadly not many people speack about What Remains, that is my favorite of the three. And it seems that there won't be much talking about Hinterland neither, which would be a defenitive loss, being this series really remarkable.

Hinterland is a procedurial crime drama, of four independent 90-minutes-each episodes. The common point are the four investigators, and specially the main couple, that have a lot in common with the Broadchurch one: a foreigner detective arrives to a small coastal village and has to work with a local colleague.

But Hinterland has more in common with the wonderful british series adaptation of Wallander.

But, as we said, each episode is an independent investigation. The four or them are extraordinary. Not only the screenplay, so dense and full of details, that it sometimes seems an adaptation of a novel and not an original screenplay. As we said, it has a lot in common with the Wallander series.

The four main actors are great in their roles, but Richard Harrington plays a classic tormented detective.
The direction is solid, and offers some really wonderful moments. And all is helped with really high level technical work, with a special mention for the photography.

One special thing about Hinterland is that it was filmed in two languages (meaning spoken scenes were shot two times): in english and in welsh, and three versions of the series exist: one completely in english, one in english and welsh, and another one completely in welsh, that were aired in different channels from the UK.

You surely have to give Hinterland a shot.

And one last thing: the locations are gorgeous, and it will place Aberystwyth in your must-visit places list.
