We've been hearing about True Detective for many weeks before we could put an eye on it. It was meant to be the new HBO classic, and for what we have already seen (the first four episodes) it could perfectly be.

True Detective follows the investigation carried by two detectives, one local, the other foreigner, that try to solve the mistery/ies behind the death of a girl in Louisiana, and are drawn into the darkest corners of the human condition (and also of the State, by the way).

True Detective mixes the best from independent thrillers such as In the electric mist or A Little Trip to Heaven with the visual richness and resources of Hannibal (a series with which it shares some renewal purpose) and, if you allow me, even Carnivàle, the HBO classic series.

True Detective is told by mixing the separate questioning of the two detectives that takes place in the present with flashbacks of the actual investigation. This allows us to hear the reflections made by the two main characters about the past events (and also, let's admit it, allows the two main actors -and specially McConaughey- to shine).

Cinematographically speaking, True Detective is great. For some moments you may think that you are watching a David Fincher movie.

True Detective is the series of the moment and, so far, it deserves to this title. I hope it doesn't change in the future. This depends mainly in the writer (surprisingly only one) and his ability not to get lost in his own story.
